Killer applications

June 20th, 2003

Being something of a gadget fiend, I’m normally a sucker for anything that smacks of using small devices with flashing lights for interesting purposes. Nifty bits of software for P800 phones fall right into this category, although there’s not actually too many additional utilities that I actually use. At the end of the day, it’s a phone - and although things like password managers are useful, there’s limits to what I’d want to use the device for.

This is way off the scale as far as I’m concerned - keep track of your child’s vaccination schedule? On a phone? Erm - why? Full marks for thinking of useful things to do with a smartphone, but I can’t see that this is exactly going to be a killer application…

Lack of entries

It’s all been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently. Partly that’s due to general post-exam torpor, and partly due to having rather more on my plate than I expected to have at this point. What with the project at B**ts, a business plan in various stages of disrepair, about six weeks worth of emails that I need to get around to replying, one-and-a-bit infrastructure proposals, a website and various other miscellaneous bits and pieces, I’m suddenly finding myself with an inordinately long task list - all of which is equally as important as the rest. It doesn’t make for particularly easy prioritisation, which leads to feelings of mild panic every time I get started on something and pause long enough to realise there’s other things I could be doing.

But there is progress. The business plan is looking like something that could conceivably be considered a good idea, and by this time next week the company registration should have been processed. Which will mean that I’m then a company secretary and director, which also means that the whole idea has suddenly taken on a new degree of reality. Especially as there’s some (paid!) work lined up already.

So getting back into the habit of posting is one of the “must-do” items on the task list at the moment. Ticked off for today, and tomorrow awaits.

Wierd layouts

Hmm. It would appear that I’ve broken things ever-so-slightly - as soon as the entries are shorter than the sidebar, everything unilateraly decides to become left-aligned. Which is one way of making sure that I fill up the page, but I’m sure it’s not what I intended…

No post

I’ve not posted anything for a few days, which is a direct result of post-exam fatigue and general can’t-be-botheredness. Plus project and business-related work has suddenly loomed into view, so my ideas of having a few days off as a slef-reward have kind of hit the buffers a bit. Normal service should be resumed shortly. In the meantime, here’s the summer view on the balcony - a single rose and the start of the strawberries…
