Because it’s too bloody simple, that’s why…

We spent most of this afternoon traipsing around the estate agents of central Leeds collating details of the flats for rent in the city centre, having realised that with two-and-a-bit months to go before the lease on this place is up, the time is rapidly approaching where we have to think about moving on.
So far there’s three options – stay here and renew the lease; move somewhere else in the city centre; or move further out into the ‘burbs and gat a larger place. Option one is the easiest (but most expensive), just re-sign on the dotted line; option two is likely to result in a smaller place, the square-footages of newer flats getting less as the new developments go up; and option three would bring more space and a (probable) drop in rent but result in longer commutes into the city centre.
So far it’s fairly finely balanced, although I’m starting to wonder if there’s the option to haggle over the rent for this place. Rents in Leeds seem to have fallen over the last 6 months or so, and there’s several fairly large developments due to come onto the market in the next month or so – so in theory at least, there should be the option for some negotiation.
