Dreamweaver FTP problems

As a note to self, and whoever lands up here through a search engine:

If Dreamweaver MX starts throwing up errors like this:

Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time. The Select Newer and Synchronize commands will not be available.

The file listing in the Remote View will be blank as well.

To fix this, check the Remote Settings page in the Edit Site window - ‘the Use Passive FTP’ box should be checked so that the connection uses passive FTP. Problem disappears…

    Tim,

    That problem has been dogging me for over a year… I blamed my DSL, webhost, software… I edited my DW executable, renamed the xyiznwsk file, and did about everything else… Your simple solution worked! I about fell over from shock!

    Unfortunately that solution has not worked for me. And I can see files in the Remote view, just not “put” to them… what else could I do to solve this?

    Hasn’t worked for me, either. I’ve been using Passive FTP the whole time, and suddenly run into the problems now…

    it works! but the million dollar question is, i had the passive mode unchecked all this while and ftp is no problem. why isn’t it working now?

    would reinstalling save the problem?
