This is the logical extension of those party games where one person starts a story, then hands over to the next mid-paragraph for them to carry on. Except it’s a wiki, so anyone can edit anything anywhere in the text.
It’s actually more than just a party game – the (original) author wants it used to improve his original work:
I think Smart Genes is an entertaining novel. But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it is not good enough to be published yet. That’s where you come in. Smart Genes is as good as I can make it, but maybe with your help, we can make it better.
I’m not sure how well it’ll work in practice – focus-grouping movie plotlines never seems to improve the film as far as I can tell, but it’s a use of a wiki that I’d never have thought of.
